101 dalmatians (1961), known as 'The classic dog tale' is a key intertextualtey reference to most Disney/pixar films. When the wicked Cruella and her henchmen kidnap dalmatian puppies for their cherished spotted fur, it is up to the puppies' parents, Pongo and Perdita, and some brave farm animals to free the caged canines. Below i have selected particular images which i have identified intertextuality expressed within this movie.
Cruella (villain) Stands out as the main in this poster could portray that animals speak don't have authority or freedom to speak out. Three dogs are hidden behind and around her to show that she owns them. Moreover we can see her clothing is red and black which are the colours which mostly represent evil. Her hair is done in a mad looking way (spiky, ruff) half black and half white. The conveys her obsession with the dalmatians.
Cruella De Vil and her Henchmen
Here we can see all the characters of the film. intertextuality is revealed in good and bad ways. The way we could see this is the separation made and the wide shot of the scene. The innocent characters are all indoors and the villian and her henchmen are out doors. From this image, the structure of this film is kept typical and similar to other disney films as the good people suffer but live happily ever after whilst the bad people get punished or turn good.
