GENRES AND SUB-GENRES

During today's lesson we focused on the meaning of genres and also sub genres. We found out that a genre is the way to divide different types of media products and to categorise them into their similar 'family' types. For example, Horror, Comedy, Romance, Action, musical, western, etc. We also discovered that each genre has its own audience which it targets. This is mainly the people who have similar taste or interests in the same thing. In Addition, most genres get distributed in a suitable time and season. For example; a film like "Halloween"(horror) would come in the time of halloween or a film like "Elf" would be in cinemas specially for christmas. The result of this is that the producers and film makers will gain more revenue due to the time of season it comes in(people would be on holiday/ more people would purchase them and more likely to watch them in the cinema).
