Understanding The Concept Of The 180 Degree Rule - Majeda

Although I feel our prelim went fairly well in terms of camera angles etc, I still believe the 180 degree rule was not incorported into this prelim. So, this research should help me understand the concept of the 180 degree rule better. Firstly the defintion of the 180 Degree Rule is:

A basic guideline that states that two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other.

Below is an image that illustrates the rule well:
In our prelim, we 'crossed the line' which we were not supposed to have done. It almost looked as if the characters had changed their seating position when they actually had not therefore, making it look very unprofessional and confusing. Now that I am aware of this, I can prevent making any mistakes when it comes to the 180 degree rule as I feel I understand it better. This is very crucial as we may need to add this into our thriller so we have to make sure we nail it.
